Wish Upon a Fairy Celebrates 1st Birthday!

Wow! What a roller coaster of a first-year we have had and none of this would have been possible without the support from you all. It truly has been an incredible journey to our first birthday, when we started in the middle of the pandemic, we were not sure how much support or wishes we would be able to grant for the unit, but it came as a complete surprise what we have been able to achieve.

We started our journey raising awareness on social media and in our first year, we have grown such an amazing group of followers, who are supportive, generous, and all-around amazing. Once our raffle license was in place, we were then able to run small online events to start raising money such as prize raffles and traditional fundraising games like ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’. Around this time, we approached the unit to introduce ourselves and as we had a little pot of money raised, they requested some much-needed items for the unit, so within minutes we had ordered nipple shields and haakaa milk collectors to be delivered to the unit the next day and suddenly we had granted our first wish.

In our first few months, we focused on raising awareness about who we are and building relationships with local suppliers, who have helped us by donating their time, such as David, from Jennings media who created our logo and website. We’ve had so many local companies support us by creating Christmas cards or offering discounts for their stores for our followers.

In December we were in position, thanks to some lovely donators to organise our first large event “12 days of Christmas” and deliver presents to the team members at the unit. Using the funds raised from these events and smaller raffles we were able to install our first wall mural in the unit.

Throughout the next 6 months, we wanted to continue with the same fundraising momentum, it was difficult to come up with ideas to fundraise as the Lockdown was still present, however with some amazing donations we have been able to donate food parcels to the unit for the staff and families to share by using an Amazon Wishlist! This was a great way for people to donate items from the safety of their homes, which were then delivered safely to the team.

By July we started to be recognised for the work we have been doing by local businesses and families. We had our first sponsored walk, and one brave person even took on a Skydive, it is wonderful to have their support.

In September just 3 weeks shy of our first birthday with the help of Paige from Mason’s bar we held our first Family fun day, which was such a huge success. Paige then decided she wanted to arrange a Christmas Market. Paige has been an incredible support in our first year and we cannot wait to work together on the Christmas Market and future events.

You can read more about our events such as 12 days of Christmas, Easter egg challenge and purchase our Christmas Calendar in our blogs or check out our Facebook page.

From the fairies and I, we would like to thank you for your continued support, and we cannot wait to share with you what we have in store for our second year.
