We delivered special gift bags to the Neonatal Unit, ready for Christmas Day. Each family will receive a bag with a few little treats for both baby and parents — small surprises to bring a smile and a touch of festive cheer while they spend the day in hospital.
A couple of our fairies have spent Christmas in Neonatal with their own babies, so we know just how much a thoughtful gesture can mean.
We also dropped off a hamper of goodies for the amazing neonatal staff who will be working over the holidays — true Christmas heroes!
As always, this wouldn’t be possible without your incredible support. Thank you for helping us sprinkle kindness and make Christmas a little brighter for local families.
At Wish Upon A Fairy Colchester, Christmas is always a time that brings out the very best in our community. This week has been a particularly special one for us, as we delivered gift bags to the Neonatal Unit in time for Christmas Day.
For many families, Christmas Day is filled with traditions, celebrations and precious time spent together at home. But for some parents, the festive season looks very different. Instead of being surrounded by twinkling lights and familiar comforts, they find themselves beside incubators, monitors and hospital beds, focusing on the most important thing of all, their baby.
Each family in the Neonatal Unit will receive a carefully prepared gift bag containing a few small presents for both baby and their parents. While the gifts themselves may be little, the thought behind them is enormous. Our hope is that these bags bring a moment of warmth, comfort and normality to a day that can otherwise feel overwhelming. A small surprise to open. A reminder that people are thinking of them. A touch of Christmas magic during an incredibly emotional time.
A couple of us fairies have personally spent Christmas Day in a Neonatal Unit when our own babies were born. We understand first-hand the mixture of gratitude, worry, exhaustion and hope that comes with that experience. We know how much even the smallest gesture — a card, a chocolate, a tiny present — can lift spirits and make you feel less alone. It’s those memories that continue to drive what we do each year.
As well as delivering gift bags for families, we also brought a hamper of festive treats for the incredible neonatal staff who will be working over the Christmas period. These doctors, nurses and support teams give up time with their own families to care for the tiniest and most vulnerable babies. Their compassion, dedication and tireless work never go unnoticed, and we hope the hamper brings a few well-deserved moments of enjoyment during their shifts.
None of this would be possible without the ongoing support of our wonderful community. Every donation, every share, every kind word and every act of encouragement allows us to continue spreading a little sparkle where it’s needed most. Your generosity enables us to show families that they are not alone, especially at times that can feel particularly difficult.
From all of us at Wish Upon A Fairy Colchester, thank you for helping us make Christmas a little brighter for local families. Together, we are turning kindness into comfort and creating moments of light in the most unexpected places.
