World Prematurity Day 2025 was a deeply meaningful occasion for all of us at Wish Upon a Fairy. It was a day to stand in solidarity with families whose journeys begin earlier than expected, and to honour the strength and resilience of premature babies and the incredible teams who care for them.
This year, we were privileged to collaborate with Tracy and her wonderful team at the Colchester Neonatal Unit to create and provide special purple-themed gift bags for families on the unit.
Why Purple?
Purple is the official colour of World Prematurity Day, symbolising sensitivity and hope. It felt only right that our gift bags reflected this, serving as a small but heartfelt reminder to families that they are not alone on their journey.
What We Included in the Gift Bags
Each bag was thoughtfully put together with love and care, containing:
A personalised Wish Upon a Fairy teddy – A keepsake to treasure, personalised to make it extra special.
A book – A gentle escape during long days on the unit, or a story to read to their precious little one.
Sweeties – A small treat to brighten a challenging day.
A pen – For journaling milestones, thoughts, or important notes.
Hand sanitiser – A practical essential for life on the neonatal unit.
Tea bags – A comforting cup during emotional moments.
Hot chocolate bombs – A warm hug in a mug for parents spending long hours by their baby’s side.
Every item was chosen not only for practicality, but to provide comfort, encouragement and a reminder that someone is thinking of them.
Working Together for Families
Collaborating with Tracy and her dedicated team ensured the bags reached the families who needed them most. The neonatal journey can be overwhelming — filled with medical terminology, uncertainty, and emotional highs and lows. If our gift bags provided even a moment of comfort, warmth, or reassurance, then they served their purpose.
We are incredibly grateful to the team at Colchester for welcoming this initiative and for the tireless care they provide every single day.
A Message to Neonatal Families
To every family currently navigating life on a neonatal unit: you are stronger than you know. Your courage, love, and resilience do not go unseen.
World Prematurity Day is not just about awareness — it’s about community, compassion, and hope. We are to play a small part in supporting families during such a significant chapter of their lives.
From all of us at Wish Upon a Fairy, thank you to everyone who helped make this collaboration possible. We look forward to continuing to support neonatal families in the months and years to come.
